August Fly Fishing Report – Jackson Hole, Wyoming

August is one of the best months of the season to be on the water in Jackson Hole. The rivers have settled into consistent summer flows, the fish are looking up, and hopper fishing is in full swing. Early mornings and late evenings have been especially productive, with cool water temperatures keeping trout active. As the afternoons warm up, it’s important to land fish quickly, keep them in the water, and give them a healthy release.
Snake River
The Snake is fishing well, and the dry fly action continues to improve. Hoppers, beetles, ants, and attractor patterns are producing plenty of eats along grassy banks and under overhanging willows. Fish the shaded banks early, then move into deeper runs and riffles as the sun gets higher. Dropper rigs with a small perdigon or pheasant tail are a great option when fish aren’t fully committing to the surface.
Green River
The Green has been incredibly consistent and remains one of the best options for numbers and quality fish. Hopper-dropper rigs have been producing all day, with fish feeding aggressively in riffles, seams, and deeper buckets. If the dry fly bite slows, switch to a perdigon, Frenchie, or Duracell under an indicator to keep the action going.
Salt River
The Salt continues to fish well, especially during the cooler hours of the day. Look for trout holding in deeper runs and pocket water. Hoppers, Chubby Chernobyls, and small attractor dries have been effective, with stonefly and mayfly nymphs producing below the surface when needed.
