If you’re planning a fly fishing trip to Jackson Hole, timing matters. Different rivers peak at different points in the season, and understanding when to fish can make a major difference in both conditions and success.

The good news is there’s a strong window from early summer through fall where fishing can be excellent across multiple rivers.

June

June marks the start of the main fishing season as runoff begins to drop and rivers become more fishable.

Flows can still be high early in the month, but by mid to late June, conditions improve significantly.

The Snake River begins to fish well, and the Green River comes into play mid-month. Nymphing is the primary technique during this time.

If you're looking for fewer people and active fish, late June is a strong option.

July

July is one of the most consistent and productive months to fish in the Jackson area.

Water levels stabilize, hatches increase, and fish are actively feeding throughout the day.

Dry fly fishing improves significantly, hopper dropper setups become effective, and all major rivers are in play.

This is a great time for anglers of all skill levels.

August

August brings warm weather and steady fishing, but conditions start to vary depending on the river.

The Snake River continues to fish well, while the Green River can slow down as water temperatures rise.

Early mornings and evenings become more important, and dry flies and terrestrials play a bigger role.

September

September is one of the best times of the year to be on the water.

Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and changing colors make it a standout month.

The Salt River is at its best, the Snake remains productive, and fish tend to be more aggressive.

October

Fishing continues into October, especially on the Snake River.

There are fewer anglers on the water, cooler conditions, and still consistent opportunities to find fish.

While conditions can be more variable, it’s a great time for those looking to avoid crowds.

Choosing the Right River

While each river has its peak windows, we don’t lock trips into a single river ahead of time.

Conditions can change quickly based on weather, flows, and fishing pressure. Every trip is customized to fish the river that is producing best that day.

That means instead of guessing weeks in advance, you’re put on the most productive water available when you arrive.
